The GOP Has Used You, Values Voter
You, the hard-core Christian. You, the single issue voter. You, who would cut your hand off to spite your finger; you have fallen for yet another myth, another hoax-you have seated yourself at the political Denny’s and ordered the Grand Scam. You have aligned yourself with a party that could care less about you as a person. While this may be a bitter pill to swallow, it’s the truth.
Consider the core principles of the modern day Republican party: flat tax, unregulated market, no estate tax, tax cuts for the wealthiest one percent, bonuses for shipping jobs overseas…all of these things solely benefit the pinnacle of the upper class. The average small business owner doesn’t make enough money to benefit in any significant way from these issues, nor do they have the means to set up shop overseas. The average Republican makes the same money as virtually everyone else, and doesn’t benefit at all from the policies advocated by the upper eschelon of the GOP.
The days of small government are past us as a nation, but remain buzz words to the faithful. The men and women that essentially own the Republican Party, the rich folks, needed a reliable and easily duped base to mobilize and vote their way, since the majority of Americans suffer more than prosper under the tenets of the party. So what did they do? They made issues out of things like abortion, “teh gays”, “socialism”(even though Medicare, Social Security, and education are all by definition social programs), and the poor in money but rich in blind faith fell for it hook, line, and stinker. Any smart, honest person (while hard to find in the Republican Party, they do exist) will tell you that Roe v. Wade will never be overturned, yet every four years, it’s dragged out to scare up the Evangelical vote, and made into a hot-button issue to make it sound like “teh lib-ruls” will make it Federal Law that abortion clinics operate next to the Elephant Ear booth at the state fair.
The same party that shipped your job to a foreign country to get the tax break will tell you that not voting for them is un-American-not because it’s true, but because you, the un-informed value voter, view America as a goddess, a lover, a tangible thing. You’ve been led to believe that this thing, America, only exists in red pockets of the country, and that anyone who disagrees with you is un-American and should be ostracized and punished. You’ve been indoctrinated into knowing that anyone smarter than you should not be trusted, because they’re obviously not one of you. You’ve been taught to fear. You’ve been taught to hate, and you’ve been taught to vote your fears and your hatred in place of your interests.
And now you, the value voter, want a seat at the table. You’ve obeyed. You’ve done everything that’s been asked of you, and you want to be represented in Washington. The sad news is that Washington was never meant for you. The issues you vote on to elect Republicans are a ploy to get those Republicans elected. They could care less about abortion, or the 2nd Ammendment, or anything and everything that doesn’t have to do with their bottom line. They know there will always be gun rights, and there will always be women’s rights, and there will soon be equal rights for the gay community- they know you can’t stop progress, but they need your vote to ensure they can continue raping the Earth and gaming the system. And you fall for it…you really fucking fall for it every time.
Why do you think your own party is gleefully throwing Palin under the proverbial bus? She was never meant to lead…the party elders know how dangerous she would be-specifically to them. But you don’t care, do you values voter? Not when the specter of “socialism” looms on the horizon. Not when “teh lib-ruls” have the hot seat. You’ll gladly follow, like lemmings with self-esteem issues all the way to the damn cliff. And on the way down, you’ll praise Jeebus for the opportunity to sacrifice yourself in the name of ‘Merika.

Stumble It!
Great post! As one born and raised in the racist, redneck south (I am a redneck, but I have a brain), I’m here to say that the saddest thing about all of this is that the ONLY reason these people are now Republicans is because of the Civil Rights Act. They were all democrats before.
P.S. Not everyone in the south is a racist redneck, just George Wallace’s base, which is not the Republican base.
