The Angry Left
Many on the right are up in arms (literally) over what they call “the angry left”. You know, the bloggers that contribute to the “hate site” Daily Kos, those of us that have dared to question the logic of George W. Bush and Dick Cheney and Paul Wolfowitz and Conservative Politics Today. I know I mentioned this a few days ago, but if you’re late to the party…ya know what?…we are pissed. We are angry. And the reasons why can be laid at the freshly washed and baptized feet of the right.
America is not a center-right nation, no matter what Pat Buchanan says. In fact, let’s make it a point to make sure people like Pat Buchanan get tossed off of MSNBC and over to FOX where the hatemongers and Jew-bashers and the proudly ignorant feel welcome. Let’s look at some of the major issues of this election, and some that got swept under the rug.
The economy, stupid! Historically, when the economy tanks faster than Palin’s favorable ratings, America turns to the Democrats to step in and clean house. Why, you may ask? Because unlike the myth of “tax and spend” that gets thrown around by every nervous GOPer in the room, the Dems have proven that they alone can steer America out of a financial crisis. You don’t have to take my word for it, just read The Economist’s endorsement of Barack Obama.
Energy independence. Ever since Jimmy Carter put solar panels on the White House, Democrats have been looking for a way to send the right to rehab and get our country off the oil needle. Given the chants at Palin rallies, we still have a lot of work to do.
The Global War on Brown People. Friends and neighbors, in case you haven’t noticed, we’re putting 150,000 Americans in harm’s way for no fucking reason at all. General Patreus knows we can’t claim “victory” in Iraq, and that the real front is in Pakistan and Afghanistan. I could go on for days about this, but I’m bullet-pointing here, so I’ll move on, if it’s all the same to you.
Non-issues in the 2008 Election:
Dudes kissing Dudes. Remember in 2004, when W. stole Ohio for the election? It was essentially a referrendum on gay marriage. And it “worked”. Even though initiatives are on ballots in several states, the Religious Right (which is neither) hasn’t been able to make this a factor in this year’s race.
Race. I know, some people will vote for Obama because he’s half white, but we really have moved forward when people in W. Virginia are saying, “Just tell yer boss we’re votin’ fer the ni**er”. The Bradley Effect only exists in the minds of those who use race as a reason to vote against their own best interests.
Socialism. Or, honestly, the lack of socialism. Any honest person will tell you that Barack Obama isn’t a socialist…hell, even dishonest people admit that when the cameras are on (see John McCain’s interview w/Larry King). Given that every tax, every program like Social Security, Medicare, and Head Start all redistribute wealth, the “socialist” arguement is as ill-informed at the Hanniturds that espouse it.
What this election has come down to, and the reasons the “left” is so damn angry, is (to David Frum’s chagrin) a wholesale rejection of the Conservative ideal. The unregulated free market bankrupted America. Pre-Emptive war shattered our international credibility. There is no such thing as a “compassionate conservative”. Your “average hockey mom” isn’t. This “center-right nation” isn’t. In order to progress, friends and neighbors, you have to move forward. The philosophies of the Republican Party don’t allow for progress. They don’t allow for dissent. They don’t allow for rational thought, for that matter. What they do allow for is nostalgia…for the glory days of yesteryear when Ike was in the White House, men were men, and women knew their damn place. Is it so hard to see, then, why these ideals are being shunned like a broke fat man at a strip club?
Didn’t think so.

Stumble It!
“a wholesale rejection of the Conservative ideal. The unregulated free market bankrupted America. Pre-Emptive war shattered our international credibility.” Yep Rhino: That about sums it up… Plus a personal note from me: “Conservatives” that know nothing of “conservativism”; merely dogma. ~k
You hit it on the nose. I no longer have any tolerance for conservatives. Probably something I should work on before I head back to the blue state.
I never trust the left when it’s angry. To me, the left is just this side of Neocon, trying to appeal to pseudo-neanderthals who can salute and pray within the same 24 hour period without soiling themselves.
I’ve been as angry with the left as I’ve been with the center and the right and the topists and the netherists. If they vote, they are legitimate targets.
