Scientology vs. Shamanism, Or Why A Discourse Is Impossible

Published by threedegrees at 12:01 am under Uncategorized Edit This

Apples and oranges. Oil and water. Day and night. Conservative and liberal. Anyone who thinks opposites attract doesn’t have internet access. Members of the two major parties have never cuddled up to each other, but never in the history of this wonderful, young country have they been so polarized. This is a relatively new thing, starting in 1994 with the “Contract for America”, sponsored by Newt Gingrich.  In 1991, Newt took over GOPAC and certainly changed the tone of American politics.  Directly below this sentence is a comment posted on this website about an article I wrote regarding McCain’s speech at the RNC.

Of course, you would not have liked the speech. Liberals surely don’t want any bipartisanshop or to be accountable for anything. Other than that most are just idiots and can’t understand they are being taken every day by the media and people like Barack Hussein (I love that he shares that name with Saddam) Obama.

This is typical. And to further the point, FOX News’ Carl Cameron found a vendor at Invesco Field who came across a cache of flags left over from the DNC. An article was printed in the Denver Post about this discovery. At the time of this writing, there were 996 comments posted about said article. Below is a tiny sample of what you will find by clicking on the link. All comments were copied directly from the website, spelling errors and all.

  2. What happened to the idea of a “green convention”? I guess the democrats can recycle old aluminum cans, but not the U.S. flag.Comment by Mike — September 6, 2008 @ 8:50 am
  3. If the flags had been French , the democrats would have taken them home like they were a national treasure and displayed them proudly.Comment by Steven L. Toth — September 6, 2008 @ 8:50 am
  4. Typical of Democrats to trash the flag. I am quite surprised they did not have a flag burning ceremony after the DNC convention. As an American, I am very dissappointed in the Democrat’s call to “save the planet”, yet attempt to fill our landfills with what they call trash, in this case, The American Flag.
  5. Typical hypocritical trashy democrats. I tell ya…I have gone from disliking democrats to hating them. God please help us …if they get in office we are all doomed. These democrats are the lowest form of life on this earth.Comment by kkc — September 6, 2008 @ 8:52 am
  6. Yep, thats how your hardcore commi works!Comment by Eric — September 6, 2008 @ 8:53 am
  7. The patriotism of the leftist party doesn’t need to be questioned at all … we *all* know they hate this country and what it stands for … they just keep underscoring that principle every chance they get … screw them *and* their mooslim candidate B. Hussein Obama …Comment by AZ Dave — September 6, 2008 @ 8:54 am
  8. The eight placed itself there, I don’t know why it showed up, but I can’t get rid of it, even in edit mode. Anyhoo, the point is that this is not an isolated phenomenon by some redneck with four teeth clutching a Bible in one hand and an AR37 in the other. Although carbine powered automatic rifles and hollow point bullets are really effin’ sexy, and I mean that from the bottom of my heart. As long as there is this pervasive culture of Us vs. Them, there will be no discourse. It’s the same thing as trying to talk to a Scientologist, or a Shaman. They will not listen, as whatever you say goes against the fundamentals of their core belief system. Unless you’re against equal pay for equal work, you should agree that since one party has dominated every branch of government for two thirds of this decade, the other should have a chance to do the same. After that, we can only hope for a semblance of balanced government dominated by partisan in-fighting that will hopefully not rear it’s head in our daily lives. Fatalistic? Maybe, but until we can move beyond the two party system, it’s all we’ve got.
